3D Coordinator
In 2021, my role at Floyd Country Productions changed to that of a 3D Coordinator. My responsibilities in that role were to manage collaboration in the establishment and maintenance of standards and practices of the 3D department, to be intimately familiar with all roles and responsibilities, provide and balance resources, track project schedules across all productions, innovate existing workflows and tools, attend meetings taking detailed notes, and coordinate with production to ensure efficient deliveries.
Additionally, I was responsible for purchasing assets, 3D outsource management, legal clearance awareness, and providing coverage for any other role that might be in need. Highlights:
Lead the design of a scalable and efficient workflow/pipeline for the 3d department’s relaunch
Onboarded and updated returning team members on the changes to the 3d department.
Worked with outsourcing partners to help improve production specific tools.
3D Technical Artist
As a 3D Technical Artist at Floyd County Productions, I worked to find and create tools, administer the 3D Department's render farm, help establish best practices, rig vehicles and characters, and be the go-to technical resource for 3ds Max, V-Ray, Deadline, Blender, and all related plugins. Highlights:
Designed a distance based pass management system for creating layered psd render (Distance Render Setup) saving countless hours of artist time.
Helped unify the 3d department under a single software saving the company time and money on software.
Trained artists coming from C4D and Maya on the use of 3ds Max.
Worked with outside companies to report bugs and suggest feature improvements.
Evaluated performance, features, and plugins for Blender as a possible alternative to current workflows.
Expanded the feature set of 3rd party plugins for I/O between 3ds Max and Blender.
Kept software up to date as needed based off of stability and performance reports from community.
Helped transition department to Linear Workflow and the use of EXR data format for simplified rendering setup and delivery.
and much, much, more….
3D Lead
Starting in 2018 I was chosen to lead a team of 3d Artists which were responsible for the modeling, uvw mapping, texturing, layout, lighting, animating, and rendering of 3D assets for America the motion picture. Shortly after the movie wrapped we started working on pre-production on a Netflix tv show project prior to it being transitioned to another studio. Highlights:
Instituted improved workflows for faster iteration of work
Created standardized documentation to simplify training
Created rigged 3D Maquettes that could be transfered with hierarchies intact to Toon Boom Harmony for posing and reference and for use in the previz process.
Transitioned my team from in person working to work from home during the pandemic with an increase in productivity
Junior Compositor
In the late summer of 2020 I was given the opportunity to assist the compositing process on America The Motion picture. This was a great opportunity to follow a shot from the beginning of the 3d process all the way through the end of the compositing process.
3D Environment Artist
Starting in 2014 I was brought into Floyd Country Productions 3d Department as an environment artist. As a 3D environment artist it was my job to translate designs, story boards, and verbal direction into modeled, UVW mapped, textured, lit and rendered .psd's. Highlights:
Modeling and doing the first pass of textures of the LA River for our segment for Conan O’brien.
Modeling, testing, and slicing of the Pirate Virus prize for the 2016 scavenger hunt that went on to win the Emmy for Outstanding Creative Achievement in Interactive Media — Multiplatform Storytelling
Design, layout and technical testing for our first all 3ds Max pipeline for the ice cube shot on Archer Season 8 Episode 1
Modeling the main facades for Seasons 7, 8, and 9 of Archer.
Design and layout for all dogfight shots for Season 9 Episode 4 of Archer.
Modeling, texturing and rendering all assets of the Plaza de Armas for Season 7 Episode 11 of The League.
Sculpting the hot springs for Hit Monkey
Illustrator
Illustrated key poses for the characters for FX/FXX's hit TV show Archer. Highlights:
Season 6 Episode 1 Cobra Whiskey bottle for the beginning of the season.
Use of Adobe Illustrator's Blend tool to create multiple body files quickly for the Krieger Clones for the final 2 episodes of Season 5.
Testing of Adobe Illustrator's Width tool prior to its adoption in the pipeline to increase speed of the completion of illustrated assets. (a method that was integrated years later into production)
Using 3D assets as reference for props that will be seen at multiple angles
